Community Learning and Skills Development


Community Learning and Skills Development provides a first rung learning and teaching service that offers adults a range of opportunities to:

  • prepare them for work
  • achieve nationally recognised qualifications
  • become actively engaged in their communities
  • raise personal and professional aspirations

The service targets courses at those who are most socially, educationally and economically disadvantaged. Our courses are run in safe, friendly environments.

The key activities and responsibilities of the Service are:

  • supporting learners to succeed and achieve their ambitions and aspirations
  • providing and supporting progression opportunities to employment or further study
  • learning and teaching standards across the service
  • ensuring quality improvement across the service
  • supporting and developing all staff in the service
  • liaison with and support of services across the County Council
  • to support, engage and work with community organisations
  • promoting the service locally, regionally and nationally
  • innovating to anticipate and respond to local, regional and national needs and priorities
